Present Standards is the independent design practice of James Wrigley, focused on branding, visual identity and digital tools. Working across print and digital environments, the practice creates identity systems alongside the tools, platforms and frameworks that help them remain consistent, adaptable and useful in practice. Present Standards .io extends this thinking through a growing collection of free creative tools for designers and image makers. The name reflects two ideas: working at the edge of contemporary technology and recognising that any standard is temporary. Research, experimentation and emerging technologies shape the practice, with an emphasis on clarity, craft and creating systems that can evolve as the contexts around them change.
Process
Find the direction
Tell us what you're building. We'll ask questions, challenge assumptions and agree on a clear direction together. Good design starts with understanding what matters.
Build with character
Your identity should feel like you. We give it a distinct visual language, test it in the real world and leave room for it to grow.
Make it useful
A brand needs to work every day. We build custom tools and publishing systems that help you use it confidently, with less repetitive work.
Try new possibilities
Creative coding and emerging technology open up new ways to design. We prototype early and keep what helps. But the tools never make the decisions for us.
Keep researching
Curiosity is part of the job. Our ongoing experiments feed the studio's work, and we share useful discoveries through Present Standards .io. There's always something in progress.
